The Importance of Getting Together
Over lunch I read newsletters. Just now I read two from organizations I deeply respect. Both organizations have many similarities to Faith At Work, which may be why I like them so much.
In these newsletters, the executive directors were waxing eloquent about recent gatherings their organization had sponsored – how wonderful it was to be together, the good things that had happened, all that. Turning Dinner into a Small Group
My husband, Dan Davis, and I do a great deal of entertaining. Our dining room table can cozily seat 10 and is usually decked out for whatever special occasion it happens to be. We work hard to treat our guests to a good meal taking into account food sensitivities. We pay attention to the guests’ interests and the connections that they might make with one another.
Part of our preparation includes choosing “The Table Question”. I don’t really know how this ritual got started at our house but it seems to be related to my years spent in Faith At Work small groups. Here’s the way it works. Either Dan or I or one of our guests comes up with a single question to be discussed around the table. Each person has a chance to respond and in good Faith At Work fashion, folks may pass.
