2009 Lumunos Stories (Online and Print)
To: Potential Writers for 2009
Re: Themes and Directions
The theme for 2009 focuses on the Gifts of Light. This will dovetail with our name change from Faith at Work to Lumunos: Faith and Light for the Journey. The quarterly themes are listed below, along with deadline dates.
THEME: The Gifts of Light
Quarterly Themes: Deadline
- Hope in Uncertain Times — Jan 15
- Direction/Guidance in Uncertain Times — Feb 15
- Taking Action in Uncertain Times — May 15
- Finding Meaning in Uncertain Times — Sept 15
Lumunos takes a “whole life” approach to any topic. So these themes of hope, direction/guidance, action and meaning should be looked at in one or more of these 5 arenas:
- Spiritual Practices: how we relate to God, how we “practice” our faith;
- Relationships: with friends, loves ones, colleagues, parents and children;
- Work: paid or volunteer, that place where we spend our time during the week;
- Improving the World: how we are trying to make the world a better place;
- Our Relationship to our “Place”: home, town, country, planet, etc.
In other words, we are not as much interested in general thoughts on hope or taking action. Instead, we want to know what that meant for you at work, or in a relationship, or in the place you live.
Guidelines & Suggestions for Lumunos Stories
Audience: Our stories are a resource for individuals and groups who want to deepen their connection with God, others and the world. Many of our readers are Christian, but not sectarian or narrow minded.
Your Experience: Our readers want your experience, not a theoretical or “preachy” piece. As with our small groups, the point is not to fix others. Our content is an attempt to share stories of what it might mean to try to put faith to work in daily life. Simplistic or easy answer stories are not helpful; wrestling with the questions and the complexity of life is.
Be Specific: Readers can relate to your story when you tell it the way you lived it, describing your feelings and thoughts, barriers and breakthroughs. Think of how it was, what happened and how it is now as an outline.
Length and Editing: We are looking for manuscripts of 650 words (3 double spaced pages). Fewer words and a picture or image will increase the impact of your story. Lumunos reserves the right to edit for sake of clarity and space needs.
Please send your manuscript to us at Lumunos (use the contact information at the bottom of this page). Include a brief biography (2-3 lines) and a picture of yourself. Digital images are fine, as long as they are sharp, clear and have enough pixels. If we publish or post your story, we will return your pictures and illustrations to you after doing so. If you want your story returned, if we are unable to use it, please include a self addressed stamped envelope.
Thanks for joining us on the journey!
