Doug Wysockey-Johnson, Executive Director

Doug Wysockey-JohnsonIn Doug’s own words…

How does your work at Lumunos allow you to shine your light?

The obvious examples are any time I edit an article, lead a retreat, or write a book. I also love answering the 'what do you do?' question when I am at parties or on airplanes. Then I get to talk about the unique ministry of Lumunos. Some people quickly excuse themselves to get more bean dip, but others really want to talk about their own spiritual lives. Those conversations are a lot of fun.

In what ways do you contribute to Lumunos?

Struggling with the hard issues that face any organization; contributing financially; and using my gifts for this ministry

What's your favorite part of your job?

Being on retreats with people... watching as they connect more deeply with God and their own sense of call.

What past job has most prepared you for your work at Lumunos?

There is much about this job that reminds me of my work as a pastor. The retreat leading and preaching/writing is very similar to my work in the church. But so too is the relational aspect. At its best the church is a relational community. So coming to Lumunos, with its heavy emphasis on relational theology, was a good fit.

How do you live your call in the world?

By using my gifts; by trying to figure out every week what faithfulness means in light of the to-do list; by walking my daughter to school; by turning off the football game so I can talk to my wife; by finding time to exercise; by allowing myself to be troubled by the long line at the soup kitchen I see every day on my way to work; and by trusting God.

When you are not working, what one thing lights up your world?

The sun. Really.
