Andi Johnson, Office Support/Webmistress

How does your work at Lumunos allow you to shine your light?

I love reaching out to people. Using the various Medias: our Website, Facebook page, resources, newsletters, I hope I am creating a spirit of radical hospitality for Lumunos, allowing us to reach out to as many people as we can and spread our message. Lumunos truly does mean light.

In what ways do you contribute to Lumunos?

Aside from the technology aspect of the job as "Community Manager, I'll do whatever Doug and Betsy ask of me. I also keep track of the statistics, apply the donations, thank you notes to donors, tweaking materials, going to the post office and the bank, and following through with book orders.

What's your favorite part of your job?

I think all of it. Betsy and Doug are most inspiring.  Community-building through the social networking, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn are very challenging, and I'm enjoying the connections I'm making, both personally and for Lumunos.

What past job has most prepared you for your work at Lumunos?

In their own way, all of them. But, mostly my volunteer/board work.

How do you live your call in the world?

I pay attention. Really. Looking around, people are really busy with their own lives, and often to busy to notice others’ and what is going on around them. I’ve noticed that technology, ironically, has really gotten in the way of how we live our lives, who our friends are, and whether we notice the leaves changing, the huge flock of wild turkeys in our front yard, and whether someone is okay.

I love to sing and I belong to a women’s chorus (http://www.animaterrasings.org), as well as my UU church’s choir. I also participate in many other ways in my church, by preparing some lay-led services, working on the worship & membership committees, and occasionally knitting a shawl.

I practice green living and sustainability: I was the first person I know to switch out all of the lightbulbs in my house to cfl's.  I refuse to buy bottled water.  I will walk back to my car for re-usable grocery bags.  I use no insecticides in my gardens, ever.  I buy local when I can.  And, I am constantly educating people about way to save energy.

I am also politically active. This is the First-in-the-Nation primary state, and one of the many reasons I moved to New Hampshire nearly 30 years ago.   I've served on City and Town commitees, and was elected to Keene City Council.

When you are not working, what one thing lights up your world?

"The only escape from the miseries of life are music and cats..."
Albert Schweitzer

Education

B.A., Human Services, New England College, Henniker, NH

Past employment

I have worked a variety of jobs, from human services as a caseworker/manager/supervisor for developmentally-challenged folks and for families at risk, to healthcare accounts receivables and accounting, to retail.

What's your favorite quote/scripture about light?

"At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us” …Albert Schweitzer and used as the chalice lighting in Unitarian Universalist Churches
